Taipei restaurant – Naked Food 裸食私廚


Who’d have thought this place would be hiding behind DongMen MRT station? It looks like a little slice of paradise (if you dispatch of the scooters, naturally).



Inside it is (quiet, yes) comfortable and spacious.


These hampers look like a picnic waiting to happen. The granola looks interesting, as does the Harissa paste – pass me my tagine!


I’m a sucker for kimchi. My fridge at home always has a slight kimchi aroma to it. There’s always kimchi at our place!




What the? Tree Nut cheese??? After reading up about this, it seems like this ‘cheese’ is made from nuts, and fermented using a probiotic culture, to form ‘cheese’. How bizarre!

Raw granola

W/ sprouted buckwheat granola, house made almond milk, and an apple, pumpkin spice, raw cacao and hazelnut.




The dish looked nice and smelled great. The spiced pumpkin flavours and apple flavours reminded me of Christmas, almost. The texture was a bit too chewy for my liking, though. When I think granola, I think crunchy.

Jicama Grapefruit Ceviche

w/ orange, cherry tomato, candied kalamansi, chilli flakes, spring onion, cilantro and red sea salt



It was light, sour, bitter, sweet, tangy, all in one mouthful. It was a little confusing at times, but clean and refreshing, nonetheless.

Sorghum Mushroom Pilaf

w/ mapled almonds, curried raisins, ta gu choy and saffron



A pilaf will ordinarily use rice, and a broth to flavour it, which will be reduced the resulting dish will retain a somewhat sticky consistency. This dish didn’t use rice, to me it looks like lentils (please correct me if I am wrong). The dish was tasty, with plenty of mushroom flavour and pops of curry coming through from the raisins. The dish was luke-warm, which you can kind of get used to after a while.


The pilaf was really enjoyable, and also extremely filling. It tasted fresh and I would definitely order it again.

1/2 Raw Pizza

w/ tomato sauce, chimchurri, 5 spice asparagus, mushroom, caramelised onion, Spanish salt-brined olives, cultured tree nut cheese, basil.


It looks appetising, albeit a little sparse on the plate.


This is my first time eating tree nut cheese, and I have to say, I think it’s delicious. The asparagus was good, the dressings were good, and the sauce was good. The pizza base took a bit of getting my head around. The base is made of a walnut, zucchini and flax meal mix and air-dried for 24hrs under 45°C (some sources I read say that raw food can only be called raw if it is under 40°C. Some said under 45°C. I guess the ‘rule book’ is still subject to change).

I was quite surprised with the Naked Food experience. It is my first Raw experience, but not my first vegan or vegetarian experience. Am I ‘convinced’ by Raw food? I don’t think that this is a particularly important question and one we shouldn’t be asking eachother. Each style of food has its audience and will attract different crowds of people. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavours and the inventiveness in the dishes. I will definitely be going back.
